Phase II - IV Clinical

QPS Respiratory & Allergy News - February, 2014

Updates on Current Projects

During the first two months of 2014, we have been able to randomize several asthmatic subjects in a large biomarker study testing an innovative drug in a rhinovirus exacerbation model. In this prestigious project, Drs. Tjeert Mensinga and Zuzana Diamant (Investigators), Maaike Hogewoning, Manja Horstman, Alfa de Bruijn (Research Nurses/Pulmonary Function Technicians) and Daniel Prins (Project Manager) continue working with other (inter)national Centers of Excellence.

The QPS Respiratory Team

Within the next two months, we will start a combined Phase I study in healthy volunteers and in patients with asthma or mastocytosis. In this study, various formulations of an anti-allergic drug will be tested in close collaboration with the Department of Allergology of the University Medical Center Groningen (Prof. Jan De Monchy and Dr. Hanneke Oude-Elberink).

In parallel, we are preparing to start a Phase II study testing a new biological in the allergen challenge model using several biomarkers. To this end, we will join forces with our collaborating partners at the Lund University Hospital, department of ENT and Respiratory Medicine & Allergology, Lund, Sweden.

Bridging Clinical Research and Scientific Collaborations

Professor Zuzana Diamant has joined the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) Asthma Section (Chairman: Professor Leif Bjermer).  The Asthma Section has several missions: to spread knowledge by organizing summer schools and the 2nd International Severe Asthma Forum (ISAF; Athens, 13 - 15 November 2014), where young researchers can interact with established scientists; and to initiate new task forces on important aspects of asthma. On behalf of the Chairs, the co-chair of the program committee, Zuzana Diamant, is now inviting researchers to visit the ISAF 2014 website (www.eaaci-isaf.org) to submit abstracts to this highly interactive event.
