Phase II - IV Clinical

QPS Respiratory & Allergy News - August 2014

Updates on Current Projects

Over the past four months, our respiratory team has conducted a combined Phase I study comparing a novel and existing formulation of a mast cell stabilizing drug in healthy volunteers, subjects with mild allergic asthma, and patients with indolent systemic mastocytosis. The latter part was conducted in close collaboration with Dr Hanneke Oude Elberink, allergologist at the University Medical Center Groningen.

We are currently also participating in an exciting Phase II biomarker study testing the effectiveness of a new monoclonal antibody in allergic subjects. To this end, we have joined forces with our Swedish collaborating partners at the Lund University Hospital Departments of Ear, Nose and Throat (Dr. Cecilia Ahlström-Emanuelsson) and Respiratory Medicine & Allergology (Prof. Leif Bjermer).

More Exciting Studies

We are preparing to participate in a prestigious Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) project (U-Biopred: Unbiased BIOmarkers in PREDiction of respiratory disease outcomes) to be performed in close collaboration with Amsterdam Medical Center (Prof. Peter Sterk and Dr. René Lutter) and other international partners. This project aims to optimize the virus challenge model using several invasive and non-invasive biomarkers including nasal lavage, sputum, exhaled air analysis by eNose, and bronchoscopic samplings in asthmatic subjects.

Bridging Clinical Research and Basic Scientific Research

On behalf of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) Asthma Section, Prof. Zuzana Diamant invites interested researchers to visit the International Severe Asthma Forum (ISAF) 2014 website (www.eaaci-isaf.org) to take part in the 2nd ISAF 2014 meeting which is an educational and highly interactive event where young asthma researchers can interact with established scientists. The 2nd ISAF 2014 meeting will be held from 13 - 15 November 2014 in Athens, Greece.
